Heavenly Bodies at the Cloisters
I have to admit I was a little ambivalent when it was first suggested that we go to the cloisters for our school's Professional Development day this June. The art of the Renaissance is not my favorite, and I had already been a dozen or so times. Don't get me wrong, the setting is breathtaking with sweeping views of the Palisades up the Hudson River and of course the world famous Unicorn Tapestries are always delightful, but I could do without the rest. I am just not "there" yet with my appreciation for sacred art. But I was blown away by their Heavenly Bodies exhibit that featured fashion inspired by Catholic images and iconography. I think the best part about this exhibit was that it helped me understand sacred art a little more and appreciate it better.
